Shaken and Stirred. Not yet Settled.

“Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path”. Paolo Coehlo

Here we are in July. It has been three months of ‘shifting of foundations’ on so many levels.  Changes for many at a personal and professional level, changes brought about by external events  – and others have made internal changes.  For some, a mixture of all of these.. Whatever these ‘shifts’ are or were,  it is important to realise that it is valid and part of your journey.

How we respond to it is our choice and ours alone. The depth of this choosing can be shaped by situation, circumstance and also the context from which our ‘view’ is perceived. It is also profoundly impacted by whether we are looking forward to what we want to create, – the possibilities if you like, or backwards to what we had and therefore, have lost.

To say the times are unsettled is an understatement.

I started to write this blog on the 20th May, and for several reasons, life intervened. June came and went and now,  despite being not yet settled, I am observing some hope, some light at the end of the tunnel as I referred to in my April blog. Put differently, I have the perspective to look at ‘events’  from a different viewpoint.  There certainly has been much shaking and stirring. If one was not awakened before, I suspect you are now, or at least aware that ground zero is never going to be the same.

This wonderful quote from Paulo Coello is so apt:

“Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path”.

Over the past two weeks life events have been reflecting back some clear messages to me along with actions I need to take. One event due to a lack of earlier action.

It started with a ‘glitch’ in my emails. I could neither send nor receive and waited eight days for a ‘geek’ to be able to come and investigate. The reason? A bug in the system because I  had not upgraded to the latest operating system. My laptop was removed for a further 4 days to be fixed.

My insights:

  • Could I identify where I was personally and professionally operating from an outdated operating system?
  • What did I need to upgrade to be ready for these new possibilities and not revert back to what I knew or did previously?
  • Where had I been stuck?

A new identity, or way of being is calling, and if I hadn’t heard it with the operating system, it came to remind me at the end of the week. As I was heading out to a meeting, the car would not start. Dead as a dodo as they say.  I had noticed it was slow to kick over two days earlier, chose to ignore it, and thought, “I must book car in for service”. On top of this I had not joined the AA (Automobile Association) so naturally this incurred an additional cost. To their credit they were superb, signed me up as a member and had the Road specialist here within thirty minutes and car started. They did then add, “suggest you get a new battery or I will be back every time you want to drive”.

The battery specialist arrived within ten minutes and new battery installed. Within an hour I had a working car.

Yes I do know about EV’s, on my list to explore.

In the interim, it reinforced a further message to a new identity, this time in the shape of different energy source.

Robert Rohr stated so eloquently on a recent webinar “Liminality, Lineage & Legacy”

“It is important to shift one’s operating system to navigate changes and transition. In order to do so one must fully embrace the necessary ‘suffering’ of being ourselves, by surrendering and releasing and then reengaging with the new energies. Most change starts in movement. “

Interestingly, he also stated that’s why you have to ‘leave’ home – your family, your culture – to truly find yourself. Vulnerability will be a given, if you have the courage to do so. As will the essential ingredients of curiosity and humility, if we are to be all of who we are in these shiftingtides.

Since January 2020 and increasingly throughout this year, life has been in turns both shocking, brutal and intensely physical. Many clients, friends, colleagues have been experiencing emotional, psychological, and physical stress – almost like they have been electro-charged. Many of us also are experiencing uncertainty and inner restlessness, existential or even spiritual exhaustion, that we cannot quite articulate.

It is essential to find ways to rest and restore your nervous system, to be able to live in this outer world of flux, chaos and drama without being flattened by it.

How can I do this?

  • Practice embodiment, to develop a safe and consistent sense of personal safety and security. The body is the vector for your survival and enlightenment.
  • Notice where you have stored outdated patterns, trauma, or are holding on to old energies. Surrender and release. Note which practices are serving you, do they need an upgrade.
  • Where and how can you become more connected/attuned/receptive to your body’s constant messages?

The next time you notice you’re tangled in a ‘looping’ storyline…slow  right  down. Allow your centre of gravity to drop, and direct your energy and awareness toward the ground. Feel your feet on the earth.

This is exactly what I suggested to a client, as he was experiencing frustration as he woke each morning. Before taking his first step, I asked him to ground himself, feel his feet on the floor, connect to who he Be.

It helped him enormously.

The Universe has a way of shaking us awake if we have stopped listening!

Reflections and Journal

  • What in me is wanting to be met now? to be known?
  • What is the wisdom of the soul, in its creating unfolding, longing for me to feel and materialise?
  • How can I better care for the vulnerable,  shaky parts of me, as I embrace all of who I BE in these unknown times?
